Explore the ways that color can be used as a transformative design element while learning current color theory principles and models. Develop your own colors plans and approaches that are applied to both individual and collaborative projects as you build skills through hands-on studio work.

Curious about photography—or have a DSLR camera that you never use? In the course, you’ll become well versed in the foundations of photography and digital camera use. Learn how to choose and shoot subjects that have both personal and contemporary meaning as you explore both back and white and color printing methods and digital photo editing. Note: students must provide their own DSRL camera with manual functions; no point-and-shoot cameras.
Frame Loom Weaving (#1457)
Mondays and Wednesdays, 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.
July 10-August 9
This course--open to all levels—provides you with the skills and tools needed to experiment with woven forms using a frame loom. Experiment with the techniques of tapesty and plain weave and investigate fiber art design elements such as surface, image, texture, and color effects. This course combines references to historical fiber works in addition to contemporary weaving projects through presentations, discussions, demonstrations, and hands-on work.

SAIC’s week-intensive course options are an immersive and rigorous experience. These courses provide artists with opportunities to advance their practices with access to studio space. Coursework is supplemented by activities such as visiting artist lectures, trips to the Art Institute of Chicago museum, and interdisciplinary critiques.
