After-school Dance Program Instructor - South Loop

Position Summary

To facilitate dance activities outside of traditional classroom time. The Program Instructor- Dance assists with program planning, implementing, and evaluating creative service that engage and reward youth involvement at South Loop Elementary School.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Teach students dance principles and techniques through a variety of engaging activities

  • Assist in producing, managing and directing the school's annual talent show and the end of the school year show

  • Provide direct tutoring and homework assistance

  • Assist in program planning

  • Manage classroom behavior

  • Develop and maintain appropriate conflict resolution and behavior techniques

  • Carefully monitor breaks and transition

  • Maintain accurate attendance and participation data

  • Perform other duties as assigned 

Skills & Qualifications: 

Minimum Qualifications


  • Must have a high school diploma, a minimum of an Associate's Degree or current university enrollment preferred
  • Must has experience in urban school settings
  • Experience working directly with children in a school, nonprofit, social service or community-based organization (experience with children ages 5-14 preferred)


  • Ability to understand the policies, procedures, and general organizational structure of the Chicago Public Schools
  • Must be reliable, accountable, and available to work afternoon or morning schedule
  • Must be committed to the continuous improvement of service quality and the organization's mission
  • Must be a self-starter committed to their own continued personal development and professional growth
