Director of Pre-Collegiate and Children's Progams, Community and Continuing Education - Columbia College Chicago

The Director of Pre-collegiate & Children Programs is responsible for the overall vision and direct program management of all teen and children education programs within the Office of Community & Continuing Education (CCE). This individual will be responsible for building and growing sustainable and revenue positive children and pre-collegiate classes, camps, and credit-bearing teen programs at Columbia College Chicago.

The position reports to and works in close collaboration with the Assistant Provost CCE.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work effectively and proactively with Columbia College Chicago’s Academic Departments on developing and growing new, mission-driven children and teen education offerings, including Summer programs, weekly group classes, and weekend programs, including for-credit pre-collegiate programs and summer residencies; Assess and repurpose existing programming, as needed.
  • Ensure that all programming aligns with the college’s strategic plan, curriculum, and recruitment goals.
  • Establish and achieve enrollment and revenue goals for CCE children and pre-collegiate education programs.
  • Establish and implement sustainable teacher evaluation models.
  • Collaborate with CCE Director of Planning & Marketing on constructing and implementing program evaluation surveys.
  • Work with the Assistant Provost and Director of Planning & Marketing to determine feasibility and demand for programming, and identify market demand for new offerings.
  • Effectively collaborate with Academic Departments on curriculum and staffing.
  • Collaborate with CCE Director of Business Operations on building and sustaining programs’ budget models.
  • Collaborate with CCE Directors of Business Operations and Planning & Marketing on creating and maintaining safe and vibrant learning environments.
  • Directly manage all faculty and/or project managers for the programs.
  • Develop efficiencies and processes for on-boarding residence life counselors for all teen residency programs.
  • Perform other related projects and duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications: 


  • Bachelor’s Degree in the Arts or Arts Administration or a related field
  • Five years of progressive experience in the area of community and/or continuing education demonstrating a strong and proven record of success in designing, building and managing innovative educational programming for teens and children.
  • Proven experience in implementing diverse program evaluation models.
  • A keen knowledge of the Chicago arts and education landscape, and best practices within the industry.
  • Demonstrated management expertise, particularly within the realm of arts and/or media education.
  • Experience working within an institution of higher learning.
  • Proven skills in working with diverse stakeholders, and managing multiple priorities and program initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise effective independent professional judgment.
  • Demonstrated ability to function constructively as part of a high-energy team, and to form productive collaborations with faculty, students, staff, and administrators.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional and proven organizational skills.
  • A willingness to innovate, while respecting the Columbia College Chicago’s commitment to shared governance.
