The Awakenings Foundation is a certified 501-c-3 dedicated to making visible the artistic expression of survivors of sexual violence. We have a small gallery space in Ravenswood with the only known collection of survivor art. We hold a wide variety of year round programming, ranging from exhibit openings, to concerts, to monthly art making nights. We partner with rape crisis centers, counsellors, art therapists, local activists, and like-minded nonprofits. We are growing rapidly and want to spread the word, expand our community, and widen the resources we are able to offer survivors.
Goals and Objectives:
An ideal intern for Awakenings will be passionate about our mission, a self-starter, and able to see projects all the way through. The Graphic and Web Design intern will primarily work in the two following areas
Graphic Design: Even though we’re a small nonprofit, we have a lot of programming. Therefore we need a lot of graphics, info sheets, and logos. You will work directly with the Gallery Director to learn the design concept and general layout of the materials needed, and then create the materials in an Adobe Suite program (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, etc).
Website: Our website (www.awakeningsfoundation.net) is hosted on Wordpress, and you will be responsible for updating it to reflect our most current events and exhibits. In addition, you will assist Awakenings staff with any larger website projects that come about, which might involve working on our online literary magazine or online gallery.
Must be passionate about our mission. Must be currently enrolled in or have graduated from an accredited college or university. Must be very savvy with Adobe Suite and Wordpress.
