MIR Appraisal Services, Inc., a research-based fine art and personal property appraisal firm is looking to expand our research team.  Applicants for the role of Research Assistant must be interested in learning all aspects of the fine art and personal property appraisal business. Full working knowledge and passion for art, the canon of art history, and contemporary art practices are a must.  Excellent writing and communication skills, as well as a bachelor’s degree in Art, Art History, or a comparable subject matter is required, master’s degree preferred.  The Research Assistant will work closely with a team of appraisers, and art professional to provide expert knowledge and evaluation of all areas of fine art, antiques, rare books, and personal property. 

Requirements
Skills & Qualifications: 

Daily Responsibilities:

·      Writes all reports, proposals, consultation lists, professional opinions, etc. according to company standards

·      Conducts market research on artworks, antiques, and collectibles

·      Liaison and first point of contact to all clients, vendors, staff, media, etc. – by phone, in person, and email.

·      Assisting with Marketing and Communications, including mailings, brochures, business cards, the company’s blog, social media outlets, and monthly newsletter on art and appraisal related topics

·      Creates and updates all inventory records according to company standards

·      Keeps line of communication open with appraisers, the office manager, and clients

·      Handles, packs and ships artwork

 

Desired Skills:

·       Strong customer service skills (a major part of the job includes working closely with people)

·       Attention to detail, proofreading and editing abilities

·       Working knowledge and experience of editing images, including in Lightroom

·       MAC and PC experience, including, being proficient in Office 365

·       Basic design skills in website and social media management using Wix, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
