The Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras announces the following, temporary administrative opening:

Temporary Operations Manager (maternity leave cover)



Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras has provided music education through orchestral programs and performance opportunities of the highest caliber since 1946. CYSO currently serves more than 600 talented Chicago-area musicians ages 6-18 through four full orchestras, three string orchestras, multiple steel orchestras, a jazz orchestra, and enrichment programs including chamber music and composition. A 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, CYSO is investing in the future of music and the next generation of leaders.



This is a temporary maternity leave cover position.  Temporary Operations Manager reports to the Executive Director, and works with the Operations Coordinator and 2 Operations Assistants. He/she provides operational support to CYSO’s 7 on-site orchestra programs, enrichment programs, Community Engagement Programs, Tour 2019 planning, and Season Auditions.



Duties include but are not limited to: rehearsal hall and sectional room setup/breakdown; assisting in attendance tracking & probationary auditions; maintaining communication with students, parents, the Saturday Orchestra Artistic Staff, the Director of Chamber Music, all CYSO staff, Fine Arts Building staff, and partner organization’s staff; assisting at CYSO concerts, events, auditions, and competitions; Tour 2019 logistics and student information collection; 2019-20 Season Audition planning and promotion; engaging sectional coaches & seating audition judges; providing support for CYSO Open House weekend. Other duties will be assigned on an as needed basis.



August 25 – December 19, 2018



Hourly pay, 25-40 hours/week.  No Benefits.


Skills & Qualifications: 


Excellent inter-personal skills, exceptional attention to detail & accuracy, flexibility, ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, ability to work independently and as part of a team.  The Temporary Operations Manager must be available to work Saturdays (8:00 am – 4:00 pm), and flexible times Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and/or Friday. Occasional Sundays for concerts in November/December required.  Availability August 31 – September 2, 2018 is required. Prior orchestral or chamber management experience preferred. Prior orchestral or chamber library experience preferred.  Interest in arts/orchestra management required. Must enjoy working with youth and families. Lifting and moving of heavy equipment will be required. Access to a personal vehicle and possession of a valid driver’s license is preferred but not required. Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
